Death in the Family
Bereavement leave of absence is available to all full-time and part-time employees. Up to three consecutive working days off with pay based on hours worked in a normal workday may be granted for a death in the employee's immediate family. Up to two additional working days off with pay may be granted for long distance travel, if required.
Immediate family is defined as spouse, same-sex domestic partner, child, father, mother, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, stepmother, stepfather, and stepchildren.
Bereavement leave is intended to compensate employees who must be gone to arrange or attend the funeral of an immediate family member. In the case of a miscarriage occurring during pregnancy, bereavement leave is available to employees who need time off following the loss of their child. Need for longer periods of time, or leave for any other than the above-mentioned immediate family members, should be directed to the employee's manager for consideration.
