Adopting a Child

Bringing a new child into your family qualifies as a life-changing event and allows you to make changes to your benefits elections, provided you do so within 31 days of the child being placed for adoption.

Adoption Benefits Policy

What is it?
Enterprise developed an Adoption Benefits Policy to provide assistance to eligible U.S. employees who are planning or expanding families through adoption. A maximum reimbursement of $4,000 per adoption, per employee* is available for qualified adoption expenses

*If a husband and wife or eligible same-sex domestic partners are both employees of various Enterprise subsidiaries, only one of them can receive the benefits provided by this adoption policy for any particular adoption.

Who can participate?
This program is for Level I employees with two (2) years of full-time service and Levels II and III employees on the first day of the third month following the first day of work as a full-time employee for Groups operating in the United States.

What expenses are eligible for reimbursement?
Qualified Adoption Expenses eligible for reimbursement include and are limited to:

  • Adoption Agency Fees paid to appropriately licensed agencies

  • Court Costs

  • Legal Fees

  • Travel Expenses (including meals, lodging and travel costs)

(Qualified Adoption Expenses will only be eligible for reimbursement under this Policy if the adoption is successfully completed.)

Qualified Adoption Expenses do not include any expenses:
  • Directly related to the adoption of a blood relative

  • Incurred in violation of law

  • Incurred in carrying out any surrogate parenting arrangement

  • Incurred in connection with adoption of a child of the employee's spouse or eligible same-sex domestic partner

  • That are not directly related to adoption of an eligible child

  • That are otherwise reimbursable from another source

  • Incurred before April 1999

  • Incurred, but no adoption occurs

  • Incurred following last date of full-time employment with Enterprise

  • Incurred prior to an employee being eligible for this benefit as an Enterprise employee

How do I receive a reimbursement?
Complete the Adoption Assistance Reimbursement Request Form and the Adoption Assistance Affidavit; attach itemized receipts for expenses incurred as well as court documentation of finalized adoption and mail directly to:
  Enterprise Rent-A-Car
  Corporate Employee Benefits Department
  600 Corporate Park Drive
  St Louis MO 63105

Claims for reimbursement must be filed on or before the last day of the calendar year following the calendar year in which the qualified adoption expense was incurred and the adoption successfully completed.

Reimbursement is limited to two Qualified Adoptions per lifetime. Employees must meet the eligibility requirements at the time expenses are incurred to be eligible for the adoption benefit.

All claims for Adoption Benefits are confidential.

Adoption Leave
Paid adoption leave and a phase-back return to work program are available for the primary caregiver. A full-time employee, Level I with two (2) years of service or a Level II, III or IV employee, who is the primary caregiver is eligible for 20 working days adoption leave per rolling year (measured backward from the date the leave commences) at 100% pay. If a husband and wife are both Enterprise employees, only one employee can receive the benefits provided by this policy for each adoption. Adoption leave shall run concurrently with any applicable/available FMLA leave. The first three days of the leave will be paid by using up to three ChoiceTime days, then adoption leave and any remaining ChoiceTime and vacation days.
