Who is eligible for adoption assistance?
Active U.S. employees, Level I, II, and III, with two years of cumulative full-time service are eligible for adoption assistance. In situations where the employee and his or her spouse or eligible domestic partner are both employed by the company, only one employee will receive the benefits provided by the adoption policy for any particular adoption.

How much assistance is available?
Eligible employees can receive a maximum reimbursement of $4,000 for qualified adoption expenses.

What adoption expenses qualify for reimbursement?
Qualified adoption expenses include the reasonable and necessary expenses incurred that are directly related to the legal adoption. These expenses include and are limited to:

  • Adoption Agency Fees paid to appropriately licensed agencies
  • Court Costs
  • Legal Fees
  • Travel Expenses (including meals, lodging and travel costs)

Qualified adoption expenses do not include those that are:

  • Directly related to the adoption of a blood relative.
  • Incurred in violation of law.
  • Incurred in carrying out any surrogate-parenting arrangement.
  • Incurred in connection with adoption of a child of the employee’s spouse or eligible domestic partner.
  • That are not directly related to adoption of an eligible child.
  • That are otherwise reimbursable from another source.
  • Incurred before April 1, 1999.
  • Incurred, even though the adoption does not take place.
  • Incurred following last day of full-time employment with the company.
  • Incurred before an employee becomes eligible for the adoption benefit.

How do I file a claim for reimbursement?
Complete the Adoption Assistance Reimbursement Request Form (PDF) and the Affirmation of Qualified Adoption Expenses (PDF). Attach itemized receipts for each claimed expense and court documentation of final adoption and forward directly to: Privacy Officer, Enterprise Holdings, 600 Corporate Park Drive, St Louis MO 63105. Does the company allow a paid leave of absence for adoptions?
Yes. Eligible full-time employees have up to 20 working days of adoption leave per rolling year at 100 percent pay following a five-working-day waiting period.

Eligible part-time employees will receive one paid week off for the adoption of a child.

Only full-time employees, regardless of length of service, who are returning from adoption leave and are primary caregivers, are eligible for the phase-back period.
